Our 4th Class determination to keep active this year

20th Dec 2020

This has been a challenging year so far for all of the 4th class students in many ways, but we are determined as a class to stay as "active" as possible. One of St George's Active Flag renewal criteria this year is that every class has agreed upon three or more actions to decrease sedentary time. The following three actions are being carried out on a regular basis in our class setting:

When we have a wet break, and need to stay in doors, we ensure that the children have a chance to dance following Just Dance or Go Noodle on line.

We have PE for two half hour PE slots during the week, and for the most part these take place out doors ensuring maximum space for fresh air and running around.  We have had the fun of one month with basketballs and another with footballs, so have been creative in thinking up games and activities using these resources.

We take active breaks/5 minute motivators through out the week between lesson time to keep everyone mentally and physically alert.  These can involve scissors jumps, breathing exercises, jogging on the spot, butterfly jumps, stretches, etc.

Ms Anderson has encouraged us to do PE homework as often as possible at home during the week.  She has sent us home with a list of possible PE homework activities, but has stressed that anything such as a walk with family, playing in our garden, tidying our bedrooms, etc is all "Active"!

We have also been fortunate to have a Rugby coach teaching us moves and tactics over the past few weeks on Monday afternoons.  We've had lots of fun with this!
