Partnerships

ASF schools work in partnership with others to promote a physically active school community.

Partnerships within and outside the school are an important aspect of the Active School Flag. When a school participates in the Active School Flag Programme it is vital to interact and engage with other organisations and clubs.

We are very lucky in St George's NS to have fantastic links with local sporting clubs.

We use our Active School noticeboards to display the great work done in our school.

The whole school, pupils and teachers, signed a commitment to be an Active School, which we proudly display on our noticeboards.

At the start of our renewal process, we held a competition throughout the school to find out new Active Flag slogan. Ms McMahon's 1st Class pupils came up with our winning slogan, which we think you'll agree is quite catchy!

Don't let laziness hold you captive, exercise lots and keep active!

Our Active School Committee is made up of pupils from 3rd to 6th Class. They work hard to promote physical activity in our school.

Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 restrictions this year, we haven't been able to hold our meetings as often as we would like. We have held outdoor meetings, using our Walkway, to discuss our Active Walkway and Active School Week 2021.

Prior to restrictions, our Active School Committee was involved in:

  • Helping to plan Active School events
  • Sharing Active School announcements on the intercom
  • Speaking to classes about our ASF events and bringing ideas to committee meetings
  • Organising and judging ASF competitions, such as our ASF Dance-Off and our ASF slogan competition
  • Helping to organise our PE equipment storage
  • Encouraging everyone to become more active! :)

The rugby coaches are fantastic and we have lots of fun while learning all the skills we need to play a great game of rugby.

St George's NS has a long running partnership with O'Dwyers GAA club in Balbriggan. We have had fantastic coaches work with our school over the years.

Anthony has been working with us this year and our pupils look forward to their training sessions because he makes them so much fun! Anthony even helped us keep fit during our school closure with an online training session!

During our 2019 Active School Week, we invited two other local schools to take part in a GAA Blitz in St George's. It was a great addition to our Active School Week and everyone had great fun showing off their skills.

O'Dwyer's GAA Club even brought Sam Maguire to visit us in 2019! We love GAA in St George's and have some great talent - maybe we have some future All-Ireland winners in our midst!

n September 2019, we surveyed pupils and parents at the beginning of our Active School Flag renewal process.

We received very positive feedback and comments about our Active School initiative, from both pupils and parents.

  • 80% of pupils say they enjoy PE. 86% of parents say their child enjoys PE.
  • 81% of pupils say they enjoy break times in the yard. 93% of parents say their child enjoys break times
    in the yard.
  • 80% of pupils say they enjoy active breaks during the school day.
  • 93% of pupils say they enjoy Active School Week. 98% of parents say their child enjoys Active School
    Week.

Some areas we are working to improve on:

  • Teachers ensure that they give feedback about their pupils’ progress and participation in PE during parent-teacher meetings.
  • PE homework is given once a week.
  • We launched a new school website in January 2020 where parents and pupils will be better able to keep informed of our Active School activities.
