Active School Week 2021

Welcome to the Active School Week 2021 section of our website!

We will be using this section to provide lots of activities and suggestions for all of our pupils and teachers to keep active and have fun during Active School Week 2021. This year our Active School Week is running in-school from Tuesday 4th to Friday 7th May but we will be encouraging everyone to keep active into the weekend too!

All classes will be getting outside everyday for some fun activities, as well as keeping active in the classroom. There will be no written homework for pupils this week - only Active Homework!

We look forward to having a great Active School Week this year! :)

Local Hero - Diane Caldwell

We are delighted to have international soccer superstar Diane Caldwell kicking off our Active School Week this year.

Diane is from Balbriggan and is a past-pupil of St George’s NS.

Diane was always interested in sports and keeping active in school. She made her senior debut for the Republic of Ireland soccer team when she was just 17 years old! Diane has represented Ireland over 80 times since!

Diane has played professional soccer in Iceland, Norway and Germany. She currently plays for North Carolina Courage in the USA.

Diane has set us a great physical challenge to help keep pupils and staff active.

We can’t wait to hear how you get on with Diane's plank challenge!

For Active School Week 2021 we were challenged with finding three ways to keep active during the school day and two ways to keep active at home. Pupils kept track of all the fun activities they completed using the Active Challenge Charts. During ASW21 we turned our hall into St George's PE bootcamp with our PE Stations! We blasted some music and worked up a sweat completing circuits of squats, lunges, star jumps, planks, superman poses, burpees and tricep dips. It was hard work but we felt great afterwards!

Teachers and pupils made great use of our walkway during Active School Week. All classes used the walkway in a cross-curricular way with maths being the most popular subject! There was lots of walkway multiplication and addition! Classes also used the walkway for mindfulness activities and some dictionary work. What a wonderful resource :)

PE Outside Everyday During Active School Week

All classes were timetabled to get outside for PE every day during Active School Week. This was in addition to our usual hall slots and all of the ways we kept active in the classroom. Active School Week is always a highlight in our year and we had a great time keeping active :)
