Choill Beag Planting Day 2

7th Feb 2022

Today we had the important job of creating our forest floor. We used cardboard to block out the light and then covered it with bark mulch. This is to try and stop the grass from growing and competing with the trees.

There are 15 different species of trees in our Choill Beag. They are only young trees at the moment so are still very small but in a few years time they will be fully grown. It will be fun watching how they grow. We left a small clearing in the middle of the trees so that in years to come we will have a quiet, sheltered space in the forest where we can go for outdoor lessons or class picnics. We can't wait to see how it looks.

Over the next two days each class will get the opportunity to come out and plant their own class tree to watch grow during their time in St George's.
