Colourful Counting and Proud Patterns!
4th Feb 2026
This week, the classroom was a hive of focused activity as we tackled the fundamentals of ordering and counting numbers. Our young mathematicians got hands-on, using scissors, colourful paper, and glue to bring numbers to life.
The mission was to create number collages, where each piece of art represented a specific numeral. Our pupils carefully cut shapes from coloured paper and then glued down the precise number of pieces needed. While the room was filled with the satisfying snip of scissors and vibrant creations taking shape, a huge amount of learning was taking place.
This wasn't just an art project; it was a concrete lesson in one-to-one correspondence, ensuring each number was matched with the correct quantity of items. The physical acts of cutting and placing each piece reinforced fine motor control and precision. Sequencing the numbers in the correct order on our display wall helped solidify their understanding of numerical value and progression.
We are so proud of the concentration, care, and counting skills our mathematicians demonstrated. Their colourful collages are a bright and beautiful testament to their hard work!
