Creating a spinning top

2nd May 2025

We made a circle with 7 sections, each coloured with one of the rainbow colours. We wanted to spin it really fast to see what would happen when all the colours mixed. First, we tried using a pencil to spin it, but that didn’t work very well.

Then we did a bit of brainstorming and came up with a better idea. We adapted a spinning top to help us spin the circle quickly and evenly. It worked! We were able to see the colours blend together, and it looked like the circle turned white or very light in colour.

This was the result of our engineering brain power – thinking, testing, and improving until we got it right!
