Rangers 2 Get Their Hands Dirty with Fingerprint Art!

27th Mar 2026
There was plenty of ink, giggles, and creativity flowing in Rangers 2 as we embarked on a very hands-on art project. Our pupils used their own fingerprints to create a delightful menagerie of animals, turning tiny prints into lions, ladybirds, giraffes, and more!

At first glance, it looked like messy fun (and it certainly was!). But beneath the colourful smudges and artistic excitement, our pupils were developing a range of important skills. The careful pressing and rolling of fingers required precise fine motor control and hand-eye coordination, strengthening the very muscles needed for handwriting.

Choosing colours, planning where to place each print, and deciding which animal to create encouraged creativity, decision-making, and spatial awareness. Our young artists also practised focus and patience as they worked on intricate details like adding legs, spots, and whiskers with fine markers.

This activity was a wonderful sensory experience too, allowing our pupils to explore texture, pressure, and cause and effect in a playful way. The conversations about animals, their features, and their habitats added a lovely layer of language development and scientific observation.

We are thrilled with the beautiful gallery of fingerprint creatures our Rangers 2 artists have created. It just goes to show that amazing things can come from very small beginnings!
