Science Week

23rd Nov 2022

Last week in our class we celebrated Science Week. We learned all about famous scientists such as Albert Einstein and we also did many cool science experiments. The first experiment we carried out was the dancing raisins experiment. We discovered that the raisins sink in the still water because the raisins are denser than the water. In the fizzy cup, the raisins dance up and down because the bubbles get trapped in the raisins helping them to float back to the surface. We had great fun watching them dance 🙂

In our next experiment we watched the colour and sugar dissolve from the skittles into the water and then diffuse through it. This created an amazing rainbow image using the skittles. We also got to eat a few 🙂

Finally our class used a variety of different materials to make our own lava lamp. It was so cool. We observed the reaction between the oil and water and how the fizzy tablet sank to the bottom and started dissolving creating gas bubbles. Our lava lamp then began to glow. It was amazing!

We can’t wait to do some more exciting experiments throughout the year.
